Obama claims to be the Lionel Messi of Politics

USA president Barack Obama has labelled himself the 'Lionel Messi of politics' after meeting Major League Soccer champions Colorado Rapids at the White House.

Colorado managing director Jeff Plush presented the American leader with a commemorative Rapids shirt when the team was welcomed to Obama's residence in Washington DC.

Upon handing Obama the shirt with the number 10 on the back, Plush stated that the jersey is normally worn by the team's leader on the pitch.

"I see, a player like Barcelona's Lionel Messi and someone like me," was Obama's response, according to reporters.

Messi has donned the No. 10 strip at Barcelona since the departure of Ronaldinho from the Catalans in the summer of 2008.
